Red riding hood by poisonmilow Red riding hood by poisonmilow
This is my entry the Bring Your Vision to Live Contest by Wacom. Please give it (ideally between 29th May and 04th June 2009) a :+fav: Favourite. That would be great, thank you!

The picture:
Regarding the theme Good vs. Evil I first thought of pictures showing Good and Evil in clear opposing situations or a body split in half. Somehow these ideas didn't tap the full potential. A friend of mine told me he once saw a picture like described above, but the Good side had clearly evil eyes and vice versa.

I wanted to do something that ambiguous.

Further talks brought about fighting kids in kindergarden. With that combined I had the Red Riding Hood topic in my mind.
Clearly Red Riding Hood is a nice girl and the story is about the Big Bad Wolf. What if it wouldn't be quite like that.

I wanted a black wolf with bared fangs, being hugged by a sweet little girl. On second look the picture should put the first impression of this relationship in doubt. It was important for me to work out little details, as for example the velvet hood and the embroidery on sthe sleeves. The border with sylvan motives gives it a frame, adds color and pronounces the fairy-tale theme. It is kept in a naive style to be reminiscent to old book illuminations I found.

Time: about 35 h
Material: Intous 3 A4, Photoshop CS3
I hope you like the picture. Critique and comments are very welcome. If good ideas arrive in time I chances are good that I can work them in (it's due on 19th May 2009).

This is just a very wonderful!!
I like how you made this...
And red's Eyes!!! I never thought they were red..
but its a really realistic art... Which kinda reminds
me of The Chronicles of Narnia.:D
THe Wolf.....He is very cute!!
His teeth are really sharp !!!
His fur looks really realistic..
I wonder if it's soft..
The Wolf's eye are pretty much more realistic than Red's eyes..
Cause i can't really see her eyes...but its still amazing..
Red's Smile is Very nice and Her face is Smooth-like ..kind of..
The boarder design is a really nice touch....a very very nice touch..

Wow, I absolutely love the detail on this. It's gorgeous! I love how ferocious the wolf is, and how sweet little red is. The colors pop and work beautifully together, and this whole piece is warm and lovely despite the viciousness of the wolf. The technique used here is quite impeccable. I really have no criticisms about this piece except maybe the wolf seems a little large especially when drawn in comparison to the girl, but really I have no qualms with that. We never really knew how old red was when this story took place, anyway. So I would hazard to say this image is perfect! Wonderful work!

This is gorgeous, epic, dark...I really like it!! I just want to say though, Red's smile looks a little...big and creepy, I don't know if she was supposed to look like but still a very good deviation. I especially love the wolf...Love the colors, and the way you made him look very fierce...He doesn't seem to like Red's hug. XD But yet I imagine he doesn't attack her anyway...That there's some strange bond between these two...
(Either that, or this can also look rather comic, Red going "Awww Big Bad Wolfie needs a hug!" XD Heh-heh...sorry, don't mean to ruin this or anything ^^;)

Anyway, great job at this!! I really enjoy seeing classics made into dark versions. 0_0

That was one of the idears behind this picture. On the second view you canīt be shure who is good and who is evil. I made her smile wider and if you take a closer look, her eyes are red. Thanks for the compliments.
